Time to say thank you!

Feedback from guests at VCS recent 35 organisation even greater confidence to continue the work of promoting and developing volunteering opportunities for Sandwell residents.

On Friday 7 the work of over 70 volunteers and witnessed how volunteers impact upon many aspects of society.

Professor Carl Chinn MBE was Master of Ceremonies and gave a wonderful account of how people from Sandwell have influenced the world, with imagination and passion. Also in attendance was Deputy Mayor Cllr Barbara Price and her Consort Ron Price, Jean Taylor CEO Volunteer Centre Sandwell – opened the event with a warm welcome and introductions.

Entertainment was provided by Raaj FM Dhol Drummers and Doxology Project – who provided excellent musical renditions fitting for the occasion.

Environmental, Corporate, Health & Social Care Community Organisation & Young Volunteer were the five categories chosen , which all nominees were presented with certificates. The overall winners for each category were as follows;

Corporate: Ingeus UK
Environmental: Moorlands Allotment
Health & Social Care: Kathy Meakin
Community Organisation: Paramjit Kaur Randhawa
Young Volunteer: Abu Bakr Syddek – This category was sponsored by Sandwell College.

Murrayhall Community Trust, Soho & Victoria Friends & Neighbours, BUDS, Sandwell Young Carers, Bangladeshi Islamic Centre, West Midlands Fire Service, Smethwick Youth Forum, Make Friends with a Book and Sandwell College also received recognition for their teams of volunteers.

The showing of a short film entitled “Our Success” was produced by the centre to mark their 35 Anniversary.

Many volunteers today will tell you that their reward is not financial, but there is nevertheless a deep sense of satisfaction and pride in doing what they do. Basically they have found that by extending their hands to others they have extended themselves.

Special thanks to the following organisations who donated items for a prize draw which was part of the awards. Namely, West Bromwich Albion Football Club, Hadley Industries Holdings Limited, Ace Embroidery Limited, Weatherspoons Pub & Restaurant – Oldbury, Serenity West Bromwich, Evergreen Flowers & Gifts also CDA Products Limited.
