Sandwell Deaf Community Association (SDCA) – Volunteers Wanted

SDCA aims to actively encourage, empower and enrich the lives of deaf and hard of hearing people in Sandwell by providing accessible community-based services and to lead by example, an accessible society without barriers. SDCA is a community led organisation that delivers specialist services for deaf people living in Sandwell. Services include Advocacy, Volunteers, Children & Young People, Community groups, Information, Deaf Awareness, and Training.

We are looking to recruit volunteers to befriend our Hard of Hearing service users within Sandwell. Volunteers do not need to have a British Sign Language qualification but we do require individuals who can be responsive show empathy and understanding to the needs of living with a hearing loss. Individuals are matched with a volunteer to enable them to achieve their aims/objectives. The support provided is diverse and ranges from assisting people with shopping, daily living tasks, providing communication and companionship and assisting with the access to social other opportunities. Volunteers will be based within the community, home or SDCA.

Volunteers will complete an organisation induction; receive ongoing support, development and training opportunities. This is an excellent opportunity for people interested in gaining valuable experience, personal development or seeking the rewards of sharing their time with other people.

Applicants will require DBS clearance and two references.
