Age Concern Sandwell is currently working with The Volunteer Centre to encourage local people to become volunteers to support charitable and voluntary organisations across the Borough of Sandwell.
There are a variety of volunteering opportunities available through organisations like Age Concern and the Volunteer Centre can help local people decide where and how to offer their support.
At Age Concern Sandwell we look for empathy and understanding of older people’s needs and whatever your age, so long as you can show a caring nature and a mature outlook; we would love to hear from you.
Our Visiting Service is one of the many ways people can make a contribution to their community, offering companionship and support to older people who are lonely, isolated and vulnerable; our volunteers are reliable, friendly and willing to visit an older person for at least an hour each week. Time visiting can be spent helping prepare a light meal, reading a book or just chatting for a while, some of our volunteers accompany older people to the shops or hairdressers. There are no hard and fast rules for what you can help with and each older person has an idea of what they want from their visitor, we try to match volunteers to older people so that a natural friendship forms and each get a sense of satisfaction from the service.
We can offer training in relevant areas so that volunteers feel supported and hold regular meetings where volunteers get together and discuss how they can offer a better service or improve things for the older people they visit.
